Our hearts go out to you, her devoted family and her cherished circle of cyclists. We are a small “bande de francophiles” who have been studying for several years together at the Alliance Française. We are shocked and deeply saddened by Janie’s sudden passing.
We met Janie this year in a French course. She quickly became part of our gang, joining our weekly after-class-tea-clutch at the local Second Cup for chat and laughs until the café closed at 11pm! Janie was a welcome addition to our group, offering up wonderful stories of travel, her family, cycling trips with her friends, and language acquisition. Together we recently formed a play-reading group and we were looking forward to getting to know her better through many hours of French study over many glasses of French wine.
We will miss Janie terribly, but we know that your loss is unbearable. Our thoughts are with you.

My son is married to Janie's daughter, and they have blessed us with our two wonderful little grandaughters. She was adored by all.
As you are her cycling buddies and probably were with her on this occasion - I recall a few years ago when the Port Perry Artists were having a show at the waterfront (which I was in) and I looked up to see Janie, biking helmet in hand, walking in the door. "I knew you'd be here" she said and then added "It sure is hilly on the way up here". She loved her cycling and her cycling friends. We will all miss her very much.

Thank you for all you warm words about my Mother. Living in Cape Town my communication with her was mainly on the phone or via e-mail and always included her most recent antics on her bicycle with her cycling friends. As you all know she was very passionate about all the rides she did whether touring or just out for the day. Thank you for sharing those times with her, I know it made her very happy.

As Janie's brother and only sibling I would like to offer your club my deep condolences for her sudden death. It came at the end of a glorious week cycling round Lake Constance in southern Germany with her husband Dieter. She was rushed to the local hospital and stabilised but died a few hours later from a second heart attack. She did not suffer any pain. Her death at the age of 65 was a huge shock, especially as she had always been so fit and strong. Her passing was even more poignant for me as I too am a keen cyclist. I remember with great warmth the day we cycled together down to Niagara from a SAG stop south of Toronto while I was on a coast-to-coast tour in 2002. I went on to buy a titanium Roark from Brownsburg, Indianoplos- but got very envious when she bought my dream bike- a Litespeed.

I continue to feel sad with the sudden loss of my friend, Janie. Janie was such a strong and dedicated cyclist. She was one of my TBN cycling friends who loved to ride in Durham and always sang the praises of being a member of our club. Janie, Fred, Edith and Ron invited me to join them at the annual TBN Cyclon weekend and what a blast we have had together.
In June, Janie was to be on our week cycling trip to Lancaster, PA......we will miss her.

My heart breaks for her family and our club members- Edith, Fred, Cindy and 2x Ron (and others) who have travelled many kilometers together around the world.

We are all better for having had Janie in our lives.

Beautiful words Bill. You have said what all of us are feeling. One thought that strikes me is that Janie was so strong and fit and yet this terrible thing happened to her. We who ride bikes and work hard to stay fit sometimes take our good health for granted. Janie's passing should be a reminder to us to live each day to the fullest, especially those days when we can be out riding with our friends.

Sharon & I are shocked at the news of Janie's passing. She was an inspiration to all that knew her. We shared precious few moments of her life, but came to recognise her as a person that was friendly, intellegent and wordly. She always had a something to add to any situation. She told me how wonderful and inexpensive French wine was compared to our own here at home. She was a cyclist. One of us. We will miss her.
Sharon and I send our best wishes and prayers for her grieving family and friends. Remember her fondly, celebrate her life and carry on her spirit. God Bless.
