The Human Body is incredibly efficient at turning food into fuel.

For example, to ride a bicycle for an hour at 10 miles (16.1Km) per hour, the body needs the food energy contained in only 3 ounces of carbohydrate – roughly the equivalent of 1.4 ounces of gasoline. If our bodies used gasoline instead of food we could ride over 900 Miles (1448Km) on a single gallon of gas.
